The death of Pine Island at the Breeders Cup was so very tragic. As we speak, racing fans are sending in donations to honor her memory, and we are working on securing two mares in Northern California that were injured at the track. We are told their owner does not wish to keep them.
Someone is going out to meet with the trainer Sunday morning to discuss the two mares. A rescue in Northern California can take them, so keep fingers crossed that we can make sure both of these mares will be safe.

Update - the mares in California will be fine. One mare was placed in a private home, and the trainer will be keeping the other mare.
In the meantime, at least 4 other horses in need were brought to our attention, but everytime we started with e-mails and phone calls, it seemed someone else stepped up and took care of the horses! Which is a good thing!
So, we are looking at purchasing a mare from an auction sometime in the next 2 weeks, and we will keep you updated.
