I have borrowed from a friend who posted on another board, who regularly visits the "kill pens" to try to rescue horses.
"Friends against slaughter,
You may already be aware that tomorrow is the deciding day for H.R. 503, the Bill prohibiting horses sent to slaughter. For many years there have been growing numbers of individuals across the nation, both horse owners and non-horseowners alike, that have joined in the support against horse slaughter. There is no need to convey any graphic images or scenes of the cruel and in-humane manner our American horses pay the price to become a foreign delicacy. For many advocates against this barbaric practice (horse slaughter), it has only needed to be an education of the general population to convey the visual reality of such a death.
Horses have played important roles for centuries in serving mankind, but not by means of being served on a dinner plate. It has been far too long that our horses have suffered the price of ir-responsible breeding combined with ir-responsible horse ownership. They are living breathing animals, possess feelings, feel pain and yes, even our love, just as our companion partners of dogs and cats.
For those that may not be aware of some facts, there is also a popular mis-conception that only the aged and infirmed suffer the fate of being sent to slaughter - I guarantee you that is not the case. The slaughtering of horses has no boundaries, young and old alike, there is no discrimination. The other dis-advantage any horse may find, is that they've been cared for or placed in the hands of an individual that may not consider their future or even be aware of the practice of horses being sold and shipped to slaughter.
Our nation has joined in a tremendous effort to rally behind Bill H.R. 503, we have continued to gain support from all sectors of life and thankfully, our political representatives are hearing our voices." I'm proud that Ed Markey from Mass. is one of the co sponsors.
"For anyone that's ever been 'on the fence' with this issue, I urge you to seriously reconsider your opinion. There is considerable debeat that the method by which horses sent to slaughter are killed is inhumane. "
For us who love our horses we know that they are aware of the horror they have come to.
