The North Carolina Dallas Equine Extravaganza Hey everybody! I haven’t written anybody for a while so I thought I’d take a minute and bring everybody up to date on what your favorite celebrity horse has been up to!
Last night my human and I finally got back home from The North Carolina Dallas Equine Extravaganza. I’m not sure where it was, but it wasn’t real far as I hadn’t even finished one haynet before we were there and there were no stops where I could refuse to drink and play with my humans head.
The day we got there it was HOT! I was sweating in my moving stall thing, and then when I got out and we went into a big building with lots of horses and people and stuff and it was HOT even in the building! My human found my stall, and I stood there and sweated for the rest of the day as he got all my things set up for me. I think he was even sweatier than I was, but people weren’t coming to see HIM! Thank goodness it got much cooler inside for the next 2 dinners!
Later that first day was when I first saw her……She took my breath away! She is the most gorgeous mare I have ever seen! Her name is Peterke; that was sorta hard for this gelding from Arkansas to say right. From what I picked up, it was sorta hard for my human to say too! Anyway, Peterke came here from some place so far away they don’t even make the same sounds we do here, so she is still learning to speak English good. I tried my French on her and that didn’t work well at all! Incredibly, she had never seen my movie either – I guess they don’t have things like that where she came from. I didn’t really care, I just wanted to stare at her and run my hooves through that beautiful black mane. Sigh……Peterke’s human got along real good with my human and we hung out together sometimes and ate grass and got our pictures taken. We couldn’t talk much since she doesn’t speak good English yet, but she’d definitely be worth the trouble of learning a new language for!
My stall there was nice and I had visitors all day long that wanted to meet me and pet me and flash bright light things in my face. That’s my job to make people happy I guess, and Hey, there are a lot worse jobs out there for a horse, believe me! Everybody seemed to have a good time and sometimes my human would give a visitor a carrot to feed me.
One family came by and the little humans asked the older male human to flash one of those bright lights in my face. The male human said no, they would wait until they saw the REAL Seabiscuit. I thought that was funny and was thinking how horrified his little humans would be to see THAT, since he has been dead like forever! My human just smiled until they left, then we had a good laugh.
Oh yeah – then there was Heather. Heather was a female human that really liked me and visited all the time. One day she brought me the most amazing treat! It was crunchy and sweet and BIG and just delicious! I sure hope Heather shows up again one day!
My human and I walked around a lot to meet people and let them see me while he told them all about who I am and what I did and all that stuff. He also let me go play with some other humans, which was fun and beat standing around in a stall all day!
One human was called Randy Abernathy, and he wanted me to help him show humans how to do things with their horses in a round pen and how they shouldn’t just go chasing their horses around in it. They called it a “clinic”. I was like “Sure. Just follow along with me and we’ll both look like geniuses. No sweat, no dust.” That was a fun “clinic”, and Randy liked me so much he used me to teach other things too.
Another human used me in her clinic too. This human was called Julie Goodnight and she saddled me up and rode me for a while while other horses rode around us and she talked to them in this huge voice that came from everywhere! I think this ole’ racehorse looked pretty darned cool all dressed up like a western cow pony and ridden by a cowgirl with spurs!
After that the humans started taking everything apart and I knew we would be heading home soon. I begged my human not to mention Peterke to Lexi – after all we only ate grass and tried to talk a little! He just looked at me and said “Peterke? Peterke who?”, than winked.
Life is good.
