Re-posted from the Alex Brown Forum: I just got an emergency message – a trainer from Mountaineer just received some very devastating personal news that he must deal with. In the meantime, he has a mare who just ran last at Thistledown and she is not going to be allowed back at the track because she is considered “non-competitive.” Her barn name is “Dreamer” because she looks like the mare from the movie. She is sound and calm enough that the trainer led his granddaughter on this mare’s back around the barn. The trainer is under threat of fines if he brings this horse back to the track and is already dealing with a stressful personal situation. Because of the unique situation, we can’t post the actual name of the horse since we don’t want to get the trainer in trouble. We are having trouble finding a private buyer, so we may need to step in. The Fans of Barbaro have already pledged $240, and we will need an additional $300 in order to make sure we can pay for her, transport and board for at least a month. Will Exceller Fund members pledge an additional $300 to save this mare? If so, PLEASE e-mail me at mail@excellerfund.org - Thank you!!!

Hi Bonnie-
TRacy and I would like to send some money to help "Dreamer". Can we add with our monthly donation for Nov - sorry we are a little late this month. Or send seperatly. How sad - I hope things will get better for the trainer and the horse. Deb

GREAT NEWS!!! I found out yesterday from Rachel that a local riding stable purchased Dream Package from the trainer. The trainer was elated to get $500 for the mare, and the trainer felt she got the best part of the bargain. Here are photos and video of Dreamer in her new home. They tried her under saddle just two hours after she got off the van, and she was great under saddle. s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff148/EstablishedLaw/Dreamer/I would love to see more of this - private parties that will pay the trainers mcuh more for these horses that the kill buyer. Hopefully, it will encourage trainers to keep their horses in good shape to atract a better price instead of getting a couple hundred from the KB.
