I have heard of an old curse that says "May you live in interesting times". Well, June has been an "interesting" month!
HORSES [/size]
I will have additional information regarding Take A Chance, but the situation has not quite been resolved. When everything has been resolved, I will post more information. For now, "Chance" is doing fine and appears to be on the road to recovery.
GIFFORD'S KID
Please take a moment and check out the new photos of Gifford's Kid also known as "Adam". He is being fostered out in Hesperia by someone known to our member, Loretta Tarnowski. Adam was donated to The Exceller Fund when it appeared the chronic laminitis had derailed his racing career and made him lame. The good news is that it was discovered the "laminitis" was an undiagnosed case of "White Line" disease, also known as "wall thrush" or a fungal infection in his hoof.
In order to heal, Adam will need to have the damaged sections of his hoof removed, the entire area disinfected and a shield placed over the area to protect it while the hoof regrows. Keep your fingers crossed and prayers coming, but in about 6 to 8 months he should be fine to be adopted for almost anything.
I visited Adam and must tell you, this horse has PERSONALITY ++++! He is like a puppy dog and will follow you around. He LOVES to be patted and scritched and has the funniest antics. He is going to be an awesome horse for someone!

NEW HORSE - SELWAY!!!
As happens so often, we get a last minute call about a horse that is ready to be shipped for slaughter. This horse, Selway, was named after a famous vet who has a practice near Belmont. Our budget is almost beyond deficit status, but we contact Alex Brown of the Tim Wooley Forum. Turns out, Alex knows people who know the breeder of this horse. Support was pledged to acquire this horse from the dealer and send him to a foster home.
I received a call from the breeder expressing her sincere thanks for keeping this horse from going to slaughter. She is sending a check to cover our expenses for purchase and transport!!! We hope to relocate him soon to the Maryland area where his build and ability will probably attract a number of potential adopters.
I also wish to acknowledge and thank the person associated with the dealer who works hard to find private buyers for these horses. She has helped find homes for 100's of horses over the years. She has alerted us to a number of very nice horses that we have obtained from the dealer to prevent them from going to slaughter. She prefers to remain anonymous, but she is the one who looked up the horse's information and let us know about him and gave suggestions about finding a way to contact the breeder. So - you know who you are and THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! Without your hard work, so many more horses would have been lost.

My daughter's friend got the black Exceller T-shirt. She is thrilled with it. She says it's pretty cool (or whatever the expression is these days for "cool!"LOL).
Direct Mail Fundraising
After much thought and consideration, and looking at our increasing expenses and the never ending number of horses that need help, we decided to try a direct mail campaign for fundraising.
This is a no-cost, no obligation offer, and we hope that it will expand awareness of The Exceller Fund and the plight of Thoroughbreds to a wider audience. Our current fund raising through word of mouth, e-mail, and internet forums seems to only go so far. This was not an easy decision to make, but after talking with other animal rescue groups who have greatly benefited from this direct mail company's services, we decided to take a chance with it.
If you should receive the solicitation in the mail, please let us know what you think. Darlene Robinette and I worked hard to strike the right balance between the urgent situation these horses face, but keep it dignified and also show the positive results of our efforts.
DON'T FORGET YOUR DONATIONS FOR JULY!!! Hay and grain prices are going up, and our horse need to eat!
If you forgot to send in past month's, you can combine it with this month. We need you now more than ever! You can also pay ahead of time for any number of months up through the end of the year.
There are several ways that you can make your monthly donation:
THIS IS A REMINDER TO MEMBERS WHO ARE SPONSORING TROIS VILLES TO SEND IN YOUR DONATION UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY SENT IN SEVERAL MONTHS SPONSORSHIP IN ADVANCE.
If you pay by check, please make them payable to The Exceller Fund, Inc. and mail to:

Thank you again for helping the Horses!!!!
