Eye Pea Oh - the classy gelding that was retired from racing through the combined efforts of CANTER, The Exceller Fund and the FOB's needs your prayers!!!
Eye Pea Oh was transfered by CANTER to The Exceller Fund because of the time he will need to recooperate from the injuries he collected while racing (his fetlock joint has no cartiledge left), and he is currently in foster care in Lexington Kentucky.

The foster called this morning and Eye Pea Oh is collicking!!! Fortunately, she has a relationship with an equine clinic in Lexington, and they are donating the surgery. The Exceller Fund will only need to pay for anesthesia and fluids which is estimated at $500.
Eye Pea Oh is already at the clinic being prepped for surgery. PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT AND SAY A PRAYER THAT HE PULLS THROUGH. This classy old guy deserves to enjoy at least a few years of retirement after the dues he has paid to racing.
Of course, this cannot come at a worse time for The Exceller Fund as we are also facing these funding emergencies:
$900 is need to save and transport a 5 year old sound gelding who was scheduled to be shipped to Canada for slaughter last night. Based on our word, the dealer in New York held him back, but we need to pay for him and transport him to foster, or perhaps another rescue group that we can trust. I have a call in to Bev at Mid Atlantic to see if she can take him, but we are unsure of what the transport costs would be. We may be able to find a foster that is closer, but the transport will cost at least $300.
$400 to transport Take A Chance to a rehab farm. He is still at the racetrack, and we are very disappointed that the promises made by his original "angel" have not come true.
$500 as mentioned above for Eye Pea Oh's surgery.
This is all on top of the current expense load we carry as we pay monthly board and care, vet and farrier for 28 horses! Our monthly expenses are currently around $4,000 to $4,500 and our current incoming donations are about 1/2 of that.
We need members, sponsors, and people willing to donate at least every now and then! This has been one of the worst crises days we have faced in a long time, and I hate to say this, but I am getting very discouraged. As it stands, we cannot help any more horses or any other organizations until we get at least 4 horses adopted out OR we see an increase in donations to cover our expenses.
So, please say a prayer for Eye Pea Oh. He deserves to enjoy his life now. And if you can spare a few dollars for The Exceller Fund, it will help us ensure the rest of our horses can enjoy their lives as well. AND if you know of someone looking to adopt a Thoroughbred, please have them take a look at the horses on our site:
