This is just a quick note to all of you as I've had a very crazy travel schedule for work.
First, the recent pet food poisening case is very disturbing, and my heart and sympathies go out to anyone whose pet has been affected. I wish I had words of wisdom to offer, but words simply fail me except to say that I understand how painful it is to lose a beloved pet family member.
OUR HORSES
Two of our horses are scheduled to go to the Makers Mark Secretariat Center run by the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation in Lexington, Kentucky. There, they will be featured for adoption, and we will get a portion of the adoption fee. Glo Most Hot found a wonderful home out of the Secretariat Center, so here's hoping two more of our horses will follow. I'll have more details as the time gets closer to their going.
Sully's Silver should soon be going south to Virginia. We are waiting for the horrible winter storms to subside that have plagued the Syracuse area of New York. We are looking forward to a formal evaluation by the University of Virginia Vet center, and fingers are crossed the surgery will help Sully.
We may also have interest in two of our horses for a therapeutic riding program! I don't want to say too much just yet for fear of "jinxing" it, but I will let you know how it develops.
Lori Neagle reports that the "girls", Franconia, Franchised and Almata, are all doing well. They should be getting a spring "haircut" soon, and Lori has promised to send us photos. Nothing like a day at the "spa" for these gals!
SANTA ANITA - APRIL 15th
One of our members, Gwen Allen, is having a group event at Santa Anita for the Equestrial Trails, Corral 22. This is a private group event in the Club House Plaza. Tickets include Club House admission, valet parking, program, and a fabulous buffet lunch. The Club House Plaza is a private area just to the side of the Club House. The area has a private buffet, private bar, and private betting window. It's a lot of fun, and Gwen has discounted the tickets to only $30.
If you are interested, please send me an e-mail and I will give you Gwen's phone number. Deadline to RSVP is April 4th.
Status of Slaughter and anti-slaughter efforts
In the efforts to end slaughter, there have been some developments. Here is some information from Gail Vacca with the National Horse Protection Council:
Dear Friends,
We are very pleased to report that HB 1711, introduced by State Representative Bob Molaro to end horse slaughter in Illinois, passed by an 8-4 vote in the Illinois House Executive Committee. Voting in favor of HB 1711 were Representative's Acevedo, Berrios, Bradley, Burke, Lyons, Molaro, Rita, and Turner. Voting against were Representative's Biggins, Brady, Hassert, and Meyer. Representative Angelo Saviano did not vote.
Yesterday's vote was an important step forward to ending horse slaughter in Illinois, however, a great deal of work yet remains in order to secure enough votes to pass HB 1711 through both the full Illinois House and Senate.
We will soon issue a new action alert containing the list of contact information for all Illinois House members along with instructions as to who needs to be contacted. Please continue to take action on behalf of HB 1711 and our nations horses!
Thank you all so very much for all your hard work on this! Congratulations everyone...great job!!!
