Dear Exceller Fund Members,
This is a real quick update for you!
FUNDRAISING
We are now signed up with "Shop For Charity Day" which is similar to the iGive shopping website. By clicking on the link in the e-mail below, you can shop from thousands of merchants for all types of products, and The Exceller Fund will receive a small percentage of each purchase that you make. There are some terrific deals from these merchants!
HORSES
I also want to let you know that we have received the donation form and registration papers for Luckymata. He will be going to Robin Hurst's Out2Pasture retirement farm located in Missouri. Robin takes care of retiree's for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and is thrilled to be getting an "Exceller" horse! Luckymata has a few racing injuries that will take some evaluation. He should be leaving for his new home in about a week. He will be observed to make sure he's adjusting to life after the track, and then will be going to the University of Missouri to be gelded.
We received an inquiry from one of our members about a horse by the name of Hackendiffy who was running in Graded stakes and is now at low level claimers. We have sent an inquiry to the good folks at CANTER to see what they can find out about this horse's situation, and if the owners would consider retiring and donating him. I'll let you know what we find out. CANTER is quite good at making discrete inquiries that don't offend a trainer or owner, but lets them know a horse has a home if needed. It was this method of communication that brought Luckymata to us.
Franchised continues to do well, and our latest horses, Countontherun, Midnite Ruckus, and Good And Game are all doing good as well. Many thanks to Howard Ong who is sponsoring Good And Game!
We have had a number of adoption inquiries for Wild Eye Bill, Mad Mac and Winds of Summer, so hopefully these guys will soon be going to new homes.
Also, Patriot is now in his new home - FINALLY! Yay! It's been a long road for Patriot. Lisa Schuler says his new owner adores him and even bought him a new halter and blanket before she even brought him home. He's not that far away from Lisa in North Carolina.
Lisa made this montage for Patriot - get a few hankies ready before viewing!
ANTI-SLAUGHTER - LATEST NEWS
If you haven't heard the latest news, a federal appeals court has upheld the Texas law that bans the slaughter of horses for human consumption. That decision is now on appeal to either the full court or the Supreme Court. This has thown the horse slaughter industry into quite a bit of turmoil.

You can find the latest news on the anti-slaughter legislation at this website - www.saplonline.org/Alerts/011207.htm and they have information on how to contact your senator to let him or her know your thoughts about this.
That's all for now. Please remember to send in your February dues/donations. We had a light month for donations in January, so hopefully everyone has recovered from the holidays!
