I am sure most of you have heard the news that Barbaro was euthanized this morning after suffering some major setbacks in his recovery. The racing world, fans of Thoroughbreds, people who love horses, and people in general are mourning the passing of this gallant horse who stole our hearts. I know the staff at New Bolton and his owners did everything they could. Some things were not meant to be. I am thankful that the Jacksons made this courageous decision, and I am also thankful that they shared Barbaro with everyone for as long as they could. Already, a lot of awareness has been raised about the fate of horses that do not have owners with the compassion and the resources that the Jacksons have. There is also talk of the benefit to veterinary science that occured during this long and arduous treatment to save Barbaro. The knowledge and advances made in these past months may help other horses recover when they may not have been given a chance. I would like to dedicate the next horse we take in to be in memory and honor of Barbaro. I found this article amongst the many that have been written. I think it sums up what many of us feel. www.mlive.com/sportsflash/topstories/index.ssf?/base/sports-12/1170119649172350.xml&storylist= Rest in peace Barbaro. Race in the wind, free of pain and mortal limitations

Bonnie,
Thanks so much for the message you posted about Barbaro. All of us who see TB's daily "eye-to-eye" and "nose to nose" cannot help but be saddened by his passing. What a beautiful creature he was. All of us at TEF should be "charged up" to do all we can to help these horses. I am so sorry that he was hurt so badly at such a young age. Thanks again for your words of comfort.

I whole heartedly agree that we should "do a good deed" in memory of Barbaro. I truly believed he would make it, if we can help another, then that helps his legacy. Vickie

Why can't we set up our own "Barbaro Fund" for Exceller Fund? If every member or family or friend of an Exceller Fund member could contribute $10 or $15 or $20 as a one time donation, we can have an emergency "Barbaro Fund" to save the life of a horse. I pledge this......If we can get people to donate to make the "Barbaro Fund" $200, I will match it with my own $200 donation. What do you think? Can you find a little extra in your pockets or wallets? Loretta
