Dear Members,
Please take a look at this exciting offer from Kelly! Dallas is offering his ribbons for sale to the members! I will also post this offer on our Members Message Board. Hurry - don't delay and get your order in! First Come - First Served!
Also - real quick update:
Almata continues to do better but her heal is growing very slowly. She will have to continue wearing a shoe on one foot for now, but the vet is encouraged on how well her feet are looking.
Franchised is also doing better. She had her surgery last month to remove foreign matter from an abscess that was starting to infect her coffin bone. She has been home for about 3 weeks now and is happy to be back with her "girls", especially Almata. The two have bonded. Lori must continue to treat her foot and wrap it every day, and "Franny" had to change her antibiotics as the first ones did not agree with her. I just got her bill from Rood and Riddle, and even though they discount their services to us by 50%, it still came out to around $1400. But Franny is our girl and hopefully she will enjoy a few more years of retirement with her buddy Almata.
ANOTHER NEW HORSE!!!
Many of you may know that Almata's last foal was a colt by the name of Luckymata. Luckymata started out his racing career with great promise, and he even set a new course record at Indiana Downs. He competed well in Allowance company and then starting dropping down into Claiming races. He was retired late last year from racing, and his owner was thinking of standing him at stud. His caretakers noticed he was acting funny and seemed to be in pain, so they took him to the clinic at the University of Illinois. There they discovered he has a fractured vertebrae and will not be able to stand at stud as the injury will prevent him from servicing a mare. However, he should recover to be pasture sound and may even be okay for very light riding.
The owner contacted Keely Morgan of CANTER as she had told him she knew of someone who would offer him a retirement home if he ever needed it. So, Keely put us in touch with the owner, and he is donating Luckymata to The Exceller Fund! This is historic - as we have a daughter of Exceller (from his second crop) and now his daughter's last foal. Luckymata will need a bit of care for now. There is no surgery for the vertebrae, just time and rest. We are working on getting him to a wonderful retirement facility in Missouri that will tend to all of his needs. Our biggest challenge now is that this boy needs to be gelded! Fortunately, this 7 year old doesn't seem to realize that he's a stallion, and he does not act studdish nor does he show much interest in other horses. Keely has seen him in person and she says he has a very sweet personality.
Speaking of Keely, if you haven't heard, she had another medical obsticle with the lovable hunk, Time To Time ( aka "Dinky" since he's a HUGE 1200+ pound gelding!) Dinky developed bladder stones and the cost to treat them (they require surgical removal) was beyond CANTER Southern Illinois capacity. I posted a message on the Tim Wooley Racing Forum and another on Chronicle of the Horse, and got donations started with a $300 pledge from The Exceller Fund. The story and images of "Dinky" touched quite a few people, and they sent in enough donations to CANTER to cover the surgery and aftercare. Dinky has had the surgery and is back at his foster home doing well. I consider Dinky to be another horse helped by The Exceller Fund, and all of you members can be proud of the many horses we continue to help.
I'll have a regular update out soon including our 2006 Year in Review. And I am hoping I have time to put together a Valentine Card display to sell in our giftshop. Rather than trying to do Valentine Horses again, we will offer packages of 3 and packages of 4 Valentine cards with a Barbara Livingston photo inside. I am working on pricing and such but hope to have that figured out soon.

Bonnie,
Can you send this out to the membership?
Dear Board and Exceller Fund Members,
We have an exciting opportunity for you! Rich In Dallas, our very own moviestar of Seabiscuit has done some "stall cleaning" in preparation for Spring!
Dallas has given us permission to offer his Show Ribbons won the past two years as a fundraiser to help his fellow ex-racers in The Exceller Fund program! Dallas feels that even though the ribbons give his stall a special "splash" of color, that they are also fueling a bit of jealousy within the herd. <g> Knowing that Dallas has won show ribbons in every class he has entered, from Barrel Racing to Dressage is causing a few more bites on the butt than he would care to talk about!
Dallas would like to offer his ribbons, along with a 4x6 photo of the event in which he "graced the entry". I have a list below of the ribbons available and the classes in which he competed:
12" ribbons from the CVA/VAHA 7 show:
Second place - In Hand Trail Class
Fifth place - Beginner Hunter Under Saddle
18" ribbons from the New Vocations Charity Horse Show:
First Place - Dressage Intro Test A
Fourth Place - Adult Hunter Walk/Trot
Fifth Place - Dressage Intro Test B
Fifth Place - War Horse In Hand
The donation set for each ribbon is : $20.00 for the 12" ribbons and $25.00 for the 18" ribbons. Remember - glossy photo and shipping is included!
Please e-mail Kelly Linn at treasurendoodle@aol.com to check availability on the ribbons, and to place your order!
Thanks so very much from all of us at The Exceller Fund and 'specially for helping Dallas avoid having his butt bit! <g>
