Lori reports that Franchised came through surgery just fine. The operation lasted only about 45 minutes. They removed some infection that was starting in her coffin bone as well as some dead tissue. Franchised will stay at Rood and Riddle until Tuesday when she will come home and join her anxious paddock mates. Almata misses her terribly!
Franchised will wear a medical shoe that will be removed and the foot flushed each day. Recovery will take about 5 weeks.

I just received a call from Lori Neagle regarding our mare, Franchised, who is one of our "Holiday Horses" this year. Barbara Livingston provided us with a beautiful photo of her grazing with Franconia to use.
Franchised had an abscess a couple of weeks ago which was treated. However, yesterday, she was lame again. Lori had the vet out for another horse under her care, and the vet took x-rays of Franchised's foot. After reviewing the x-rays, the vets at Rood & Riddle saw a foreign matter in her foot and feel she needs to come in right away for treatment. As I write this, the van is coming over to pick up Franchised (who is in a lot of discomfort at the moment), and they will probably operate to remove whatever the matter is, and she will probably need to remain in the vet hospital for a couple of days for follow-up care. Lori is going with her, and one of Lori's friends will meet her at the hospital to assure Franchised that everything is going to be okay.
Hopefully, this is something that can be treated quickly without much complication. Franchised has been part of The Exceller Fund family since 1999. She was almost adopted once, but the adoption feel through. Like many older broodmares, not many people see any value in them when they can no longer produce a foal.
I do not know what the vet expenses will be, but will keep all of you informed. If you have a moment, please say a prayer for Francised
www.excellerfund.org/horses/franchised.htm that she recovers fully and quickly!
