I was just forwarded the following message from EPONA who is the current caregiver organization for 3 Exceller Fund horses: Cause of Cam, Unexpected Miracle, and Itpaystobelate:
Good morning, everyone.
It's been a tough week and it's time to let you all know where E.P.O.N.A. is at.
As a non-profit, we rely heavily on private support (members, sponsors, donators) and supplement that with fundraisers (our amazing Gala!) and grants (thank you, Michelle!).
This is our current situation:
-The next fundraiser is in August, followed by several others over the fall months
-We are hoping for grants to be coming through
-We are $27,000.00+ in debt
-We have $800.00 in our bank account
There is not enough money to pay the lease on the barn for this month, feed the horses and pay the staff this coming week. We are choosing to feed the horses and pay the staff in lieu of paying the lease.
We have two options:
1) Somehow raise the funds we need - about $50,000.00 - to get us through the summer months.
2) Find homes for the horses and close our doors.
On behalf of the horses in E.P.O.N.A.'s care and the horses and clients who benefit so much from Wendell's Wish, we are asking for your support and assistance in making this very difficult decision.
Sincerely and respectfully, Ellen

From what I understand, Ron Levesque is no longer really involved with EPONA and is now working as a trainer at a commercial boarding facility. We need to move our horses out of this situation or we risk having a barn lien placed on all of them. We can get transportation to any number of locations up and down the East Coast, so what we need is to find someone who can do at least one of the following:
1. Take in at least one horse on a temporary foster basis.
2. Take in all 3 horses on a temporary foster basis.
3. Take in at least one horse on a longer term basis.
4. Take in all 3 horses on a longer term basis.
All 3 horses are "Pasture Pals" and cannot be ridden. Cam has the stifle issue for which he gets injections of adequan. Unexepected Miracle, one of our first horses, has arthritis but is pasture sound. Itpaystobelate has sustained injuries which make it necessar for him to be confined to a smaller pasture, but I don't have specific vet information. I have asked EPONA to forward me all of the specific information on the current condition and requirements of these horses.
I have sent a message to EPONA asking them why The Exceller Fund was not informed sooner about this situation because it puts an extreme burden on TEF. This is one reason why I am cautious about taking on new horses. I never want The Exceller Fund to wind up in a similar situation.
If you have suggestions or a contact for someone who can take in one or all 3 horses, please send your reply to mail@excellerfund.org .
Thank you, all of your, for your continuing support of The Exceller Fund!
Sincerely,
Bonnie Mizrahi
Post script - The situation was later resolved, but thank you to everyone who responded!
